Athens Olympics

In August 2004 PHYSICAL FIX went accross to Athens for Olympics.  Supporting mainly Flatwater sprint and Slalom Canoeing but watching a whole host of events and enjoying the greatest sporting competiton on earth.

We had full access to The Team GB Lodge and mixed freely with all of the top GB athletes.

Included in this page are a few photos from the time spent there.  We are all very happy that the London 2012 bid was successfull and hope to be working with as many of the athlets competing both there and in Bejing in 2008.

The FInal of the k2 1000m in which Ian Wynne and Paul Darby-Dowman were 7th.  A very exciting race that had the crowd on its feet, it was such a close finish and the boys made us all very proud.

As official supporters we were all given a full access pass to the Olympic Lodge.  Here you can see some of the supporters chilling out by the live Europsort feed.  This was great as the local TV was a little hard to understand, not to mention the GB Eurosport TV followed the GB athletes rather than the greeks!!

Paul Hobrough with Kirsten Lawton, the British No:1 trampoline competitor.  Kirsten is a credit to her sport and performed well in Athens her first ever Olympics.  Kirsten is the World record holder for points scored in the Syncro event, but moved to the individual for the Games in Athens.

Paul Hobrough with Chris Rawlinson.  Chris and Paul watched Kelly Holmes win her second Gold medal together over a beer.  Chris had finished competing, but was the life and soul at the lodge and continues to be a huge personality in the team GB group.

Here at Schinias (Kayak/rowing lake) you can see the British support far outweights the other nations.  We did all we could to be the biggest and loudest group for our competitors.  It really makes a difference to have such huge support.

Paul Darby-Dowman having just finished racing at his 3rd Olympics and achieving an excellent 7th place.  With his year over it was time to celebrate with his family adoring fans.

Paul Hobrough lucky enough to hold Ian's bronze medal minutes after the presentation had taken place.  It just doesnt come better than this.

We had a lot of fun with the mascots between racing, all the staff and volunteers were great fun and kept the crowd alive on those early starts every morning.

Paul with Helen Reeves, Olympic Bronze medal winner in the Canoe Slalom.  Helen seen here after her racing had finished enjoying the Olympic city of Athens.  Helen is now firmly set on achieving Gold in Bejing in 2008.

Here you can see Eric Farrell and Ian after his Olympic Final.  Eric has been coaching Ian in his lead up to Athens in both the K1 event and the k2 event with Paul Darby-Dowman.  All their efforts paid off in this moment captured here.  Athletes and coaches have to work for such a long time, 7 days a week in order to make it to the Olympics, so to win a medal is the ultimate reward.
